Phishing
What Is It?
Phishing is an email method that people use to gather personal and financial information from others. Usually, the sender make it look like they’re from a trustworthy site like PayPal, eBay or MSN. To do this senders could use the a company’s logo so that victims will think that they were going to a trusted site. However, when they click on the link to whatever problems they are said to have (for example, a billing problem) they are taken to a spoofed site that will ask for their personal information and its used for identity theft. (Search Security.com)
How Do you Prevent It?
If you get an email from a site asking you to give personal information, you should click on the link immediately. You call the company or go to the site and check to see if they really do need your information changed or if its just a scam. Since businesses and company rarely ask you for any personal information using email, it should be a tip-off that it may be a scam. In addition, you can also look carefully at the URL of the site. Sometimes the phishers will substitute a letter that looks similar to one from the real site to disguise it. For example, the site paypal.com could be paypa1.com. most people will not notice that the ‘l’ is actually the number ‘1′, so they might get tricked. (ComputerWorld.com)

Worm
What Is It?
A computer worms is a computer program that can self-replicate and is similar to a computer virus. The difference is that, while a virus attaches itself and becomes part of another program, a worm is self-contains, meaning that it doesn’t need to be part of a program to executed. In addition to replicating, a worm can also do other harmful things such as deleting files on a system or sending documents by email. (Anti-virus World)
Cornell University Department of Computer Science
How Do You get Them?
There are several ways for a worm to spread and infect computers. for example, it can spread through IMing or email by sending links of infected websites or attachments. Once clicked on, the worm will be activated and spread. There are also internet worms than scans for all available network resources and look for vulnerable machines to infect. (virusall.com)
How Do You stop Them?
You should always keep up-to-date in installing patches provided by operating system and application vendors.
How Do You Prevent Them?
Some people say that the best way to protect yourself against worms is to not run Microsoft software. Another way to prevent worms is to not open strange files and emails you receive. By clicking on the link to the email, you could have activated the worm.

Trojan Horse
What Is It?
A Trojan horse is a program that is disguised within a legitimate software. To an unsuspecting user, the file may look like a fun, interesting or harmless file, but when executed, the file is actually harmful. There are several types of Trojan horses. Trojan horses are dangerous because they can corrupt or overwrite data, steal personal information from the user, and installing a backdoor on the for others to access your personal information among other things. (Y2U.co.uk)
How Do You Get Them?
Your computer get effected when you open a file with the Trojan in it. Trojans can literally be ANYTHING you find on the internet such as a free game, movie or song. Trojans usually do their damage without you noticing. One way to know is that others might tell you that you are attacking them. (IRChelp.org)
How Do You Stop Them?
Although not the best way, one solution is to clean and re-install everything on your computer. Back up all your files on original CD’s and when you’re positive that those files are not infected, re-install them back onto your computer. Another way is to install and anti-virus software. The only problem is, these software can usually only find the well known Trojans. Since Trojans can evolve quickly, sometimes your anti-virus software will not find the newest Trojans. (IRChelp.org)
How Do You Prevent Them?
To prevent getting infected, you should NEVER download files that you’re not sure of. Even if the file is from a friend, you should still make sure you know what the content is. Sometimes it might be the infected file sending the file and not the friend. Also you should beware of hidden file extentions. A file could go by the name “funnypic.jpg” but it might actually be “funnypic.jpg.exe”. Checking will decrease you chance of being tricked. (IRChelp.org)

Virus
What Is It?
A virus is simply a code written by a person who has nothing else to do with their free time.
Depending on the type of virus, it can be deadly or plain annoying. For example, some viruses can infect your hard drive and delete all the contents in it. On the other hand, other types of viruses doesn’t do much except put a smiley face on your screen of send out verbal messages at random times. (Newton BBS)
How Do You get them?
Viruses can easily spread because when you open a program that is infected, you activate the virus. You might not know that a file is a virus because it can be disguised as an ordinary attachment of funny images, greeting card, audio file or as a file you’re going to download. (Microsoft) In addition, you can also get viruses from a floppy disk of USB that is already infected. Like a cold, it can spread just by contacting with anything that is already infected. (AARP.com)
How Do You Stop Them?
You know your computer has a virus when it starts acting strange. Some symptoms are like, for example, you get uncommon error messages, your computer functions slower than normal or it freezes often. In addition, you see that applications on your computer doesn’t work properly or you fail to print correctly. When you notice theses signs there may be a possible chance your computer has a virus. You should immediately use your anti-virus program and check. Hopefully, you can get rid of the viruses in time before it destroys your files. (Spam Laws)
How You Prevent Them?
To prevent you should always update your anti-virus protection program. Usually it’s best to get a program that updates itself because there are new viruses put out there everyday. Another way to prevent from being infected is that you should make sure that when you open an attachment, you know where it’s from and who sent it. In addition, if there are emails from unfamiliar senders, it’s best if you DON’T OPEN THEM. Just delete those. (Spam Laws)

After doing the web quest we learned that advanced searching gives us more specific information. Advance search help you eliminate junk information so that we can obtain what we need faster. Also we don’t have to waste time on useless info that we don’t need. We also learned that trimming URLs can be really helpful because you never know what information you might find.
We would use the advance search in the future for assignments that needs researching. Also we would use it for fun or in ICT. We would also use the URL trimming to locate the origin of a site.
Phosphorus is a nonmetal solid that is the 15th element on the periodical table of elements. It’s usually red or white. There are two forms of whit phosphorus. Usually it’s a waxy white color, but when it’s pure, it’s colorless and transparent. When exposed to air, white phosphorus naturally ignites, but when heated in its own vapor at 250 degrees Celsius, it turns red. Unlike white phosphorus, red phosphorus is a bit more stable because it doesn’t catches on fire when in air. Both white and read phosphate does not dissolve in water. Phosphorus can be found in detergent, fertilizers and pesticides. It’s also a key element in the human body as it can be found in DNA and RNA.
Last Thursday we had international day. The first activity that we did was go to the assembly. We listened to David from Crossroads talk about poverty. After that, we did an ativity involving paper bags. The task was to make and sell enough paper bags so that we could afford to send one of our ‘family mambers’ (we were split into groups of 6 first) to school. However there was a little catch to it. We also had to have enough money to pay for food rent and maybe sanitation. If we didnt’ make enough, we had to go under the ‘bridge’ (where we could borrow money and work to pay back).
What I learned was that life for people below the poverty was really bad. Their whole house was literally the size of my bed. Also they didn’t have a choice on what their kids were going to be, because without a proper education, there wasn’t much of a choice for their future except for what they are doing now. They was so focused on making bags to make money that they were oblivious to almost everything else, including how the environment around them looked.
I thought it wasn’t really fair that all those people had to live so poorly. It made me really want to help them improve the living conditions. One way that we’re already doing that is with the Together We Build project. Other way that i can help is, for example, give away my old shoes to charity instead of throwing them away. I could also be more considerate of people living on the streets, and maybe in the future, I can earn enough to build a home for the homeless and give them a place to stay.
Like most people, i start my day by waking up. Then go through the usual brushing, showering, changing clothes routine. On weekdays I change into my uniform. Then I go downstairs for breakfast. Usually it’s noodles or bread. I’m done with breakfast at about 6:40 (yea….I wake up THAT early…) I leave the house at about 6:45 to 7:00 to get to school on time. Usually I’m 15 minutes early. After that I get into my classes. I’m at school until 3, then the car picks me and my brother up and we go home, though sometimes, we go get something to eat (KFC, ice cream) or something to drink (coffee). We arrive at home at about 4. I go take a shower, eat and do homework. After all that, I usually go on MSN or use the Internet until 9. Then I go to watch my favorite show till 9:30. After that my parents tells me to go to sleep…..so I go through the routine of brushing, combing my hair, etc……Then i go to sleep and the whole routine starts again the next day.
